Game Rules - Genji-Heike
Objective: Be the first player to achieve one of the winning conditions.
Setup:
- The game is played on a 4x4 grid of tiles.
- Each tile has a unique combination of a Plant (Maple, Cherry, Pine, Iris) and a Symbol (Sun, Flag, Bird, Cloud).
- Players are Genji (Red) and Heike (Black). Genji starts.
Gameplay:
- First Move: The first player (Genji) must place their token on any tile along the outer border of the board.
- Subsequent Moves: After the first move, players must place their token on an empty tile that matches either the Plant OR the Symbol of the tile their opponent just claimed.
- When a tile is claimed, it's removed and replaced by the player's token.
Winning Conditions:
A player wins if they achieve any of the following:
- Claim all four tiles in a row (horizontally).
- Claim all four tiles in a column (vertically).
- Claim all four tiles along one of the two main diagonals.
- Claim any 2x2 square of tiles.
Game End:
- The game ends immediately when a player achieves a winning condition.
- If a player cannot make a legal move, they lose, and their opponent wins.
- If the board fills up and no player has won, the game is a draw.
